April 2008 To: Active and Emeritus CHPs From: Nancy P. Kirner, Certified Health Physicist™, President Dear Fellow Certified HealthPhysicists™: It’s an election year, and now is the time to VOTE! Actually, for the Academy, every year is election year, as every year we have a new slate of candidates hoping to serve you on the Executive Committee of the American Academy of Health Physics. This letter serves as notice that the 2008 election for AAHP officers has officially opened and will continue until 5:00 PM (EDT) Wednesday, April 30, 2008. The ballot and detailed instructions are located on the AAHP “Members Only” website at http://www.hps1.org/aahp/membersonly/08ballot/, along with information on the candidates. You may vote either electronically or by the traditional paper method. If you wish to vote by letter, contact the Secretariat, and a paper ballot and printed candidate information will be mailed to you. Please note that, if you somehow submit ballots by both methods, only the electronic ballot will be counted, not the paper ballot. The Nominating Committee has put together an outstanding slate of candidates. Please join me in thanking the Nominating Committee 2008 Chair Kathryn Pryor and 2007 Chair Carl Paperiello, along with 2007 committee members Keith Anderson, Stephen Brown, Daniel Lee Burnfield, Stephen King, Kyle Kleinhans, L. Max Scott, James Tarpinian and 2008 members John Hageman, Glenn Sturchio, and Kent Lambert for their work. The candidates deserve recognition, as well, for their willingness to “Just say Yes” and serve. By this letter, I’m also inviting you to attend the 53rd Annual Meeting of the Health Physics Society in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on July 13-17. There are many opportunities for gaining continuing education credits at the meeting, such as one of two Academy-sponsored all-day continuing education courses on Saturday, July 12. Remember also that Tuesday, July 15, is Academy Day. Past President Edward Maher has developed a practical, all-day symposium entitled, “Radiological Accidents and Incidents - Lessons Learned?” and the annual Business Meeting will immediately follow Ed’s symposium. The Annual Academy Awards Luncheon will be at noon that day, too. Details about Academy Day offerings are available on the HPS website and in Health Physics News. I look forward to seeing you in Pittsburgh. Please, vote now!
