Call for AAHP Nominations

The American Academy of Health Physics (AAHP) Nominating Committee needs your help in finding a few good men and women who are interested in serving as AAHP officers. We are seeking nominees for President-elect, Secretary, and Director. Nominees must be current CHPs. The successful nominees will take office at the 2002 Health Physics Society (HPS) Midyear Meeting and serve a three-year term of office. In addition to the AAHP officers, the AAHP is also seeking nominations for the position of Associate Editor of the “CHP Corner” and CHP News. The successful candidate would assist the Editor for two years, and then serve as the Editor for a two-year term. Please contact any member of the Nominating Committee (Ed Bailey, Wm. Jack Beck, Bob Feinberg, Steven Gebers, David Kent, Jerry Martin, or Larry McKay) by phone, fax, or email to volunteer or to nominate someone. Contact information for these individuals can be found in the HPS Membership Handbook or at the AAHP Web site.

ABHP Exam Question Recycling and Reuse

The ABHP is continuing to make progress improving the recycling and reuse of previous exam questions, balloted questions that didn’t make the exam, and draft questions that were previously rejected by the Exam Panel. Jim Willison (1999 Part II Exam Panel Chair) has spearheaded a massive effort to develop a technically defensible method of rating the test performance of questions. He forwarded an interim report to the Board on his efforts, which have focused primarily on rating Part II questions that have been used since 1992. The Board wishes to acknowledge and thank Jim for his exceptional effort and persistence in this endeavor. His efforts will be a major step forward in developing the yardstick to select well-performing recycled exam questions.

During the 2000 summer Board meeting a motion was passed to retain and carry forward to succeeding Panels all Part II draft questions that appeared on the balloting phase of the Part II exam. The Board further decided that all questions and parts of questions that did not reach this step in the exam cycle would be destroyed and not carried forward for subsequent panel recycling. The reason for this decision was because the additional work involved to bring these questions to an acceptable condition was comparable to drafting a new question. This will alleviate the Panel Chairs from having to maintain the sizable draft question and question-part bank that has accumulated over many years.
