Did you know that more than 40 CHPs participated in the development of the 1998 Part II Examination? This includes 29 Part II Panel Members, eight members of the ABHP, the Past Part II Panel Chair, and three independent reviewers. I want to extend my special thanks to Jack Higginbotham for an outstanding job as Part II Panel Chair this year and to Ken Kase, Jim Tarpinian, and Tom Buhl for their help as independent reviewers of the final draft. If you see any of these folks, be sure to let them know you appreciate their efforts!

A Message from the Treasurer

First the good news—there will be no increases in fees for the coming year. The first installment of my report deals with our income for the 1998-99 budget year. We have four main sources of income: exam fees, members’ fees, continuing education courses, and interest. More than a third of the income is from examination fees. Consequently, our income is heavily dependent on the exam process and on the number of candidates who apply for examination. We are currently working closely with the Secretariat to clearly differentiate between fixed and variable examination costs. Obviously, the panels preparing the examination must meet and we must correspond with candidates. However, we need to become more aware of the variable costs so that we can predict our income with greater certainty. Next time, how we spend our funds!

Recognition from the National Environmental Training Association (NETA)

George Vargo, ABHP Chair, also reports that the Board of Examiners for the Certified Environmental Trainer (CET) Program has approved recognition of the CHP credential as satisfying the technical competency requirements for the CET in Radiation Protection.

The CET designation is a voluntary credential awarded to those who pass a series of rigorous tests, demonstrate appropriate experience in at least one of the principle environmental technical specialties, and are experienced in delivering training and education to adult learners. The CET credential was established in 1986 and continues to evolve and improve in a fashion similar to that of the CHP.

Those wishing to obtain further information on the CET credential should write to NETA at:
